OUR BACKGROUND
Terre Joie, owned and run by the family of Joe and Maliha Saade, is one of the new wave of Lebanese wineries who optimize our altitude terroirs rather than replicate Bordeaux profiles. At Terre Joie we strive to produce unexpectedly elegant wines, and stimulate a joyful experience. Much like the worlds of Art and Music; Wine evokes nostalgic emotions and memories that live deep within each of us and a are well perceived by the soul.
The name Terre Joie was inspired by the initials of our son Tareq Joe, who was very supportive of the project, but passed away in a scuba diving accident. The French translation of the Saade family name is Joie, meaning joy or happiness.
We own 10 hectares of vineyards planted at high altitude with eight varietals: Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault, Cabernet Sauvignon, Mourvedre and Sauvignon blanc. Both Cinsault and Cab Sauvignon are over 30 year-old vines planted at 1400m altitude, probably among the highest in Lebanon. We plan to plant indigenous white varietal Obeidy in its original terroir. Current production is 18,000 bottles and growing.
The domain was started in 2008 and the first vintage was produced in 2011. Our fLuR 2014 vintage was awarded a silver medal with a rating of 91 by International Wine Challenge (IWC) in London. Our Rosé 2016 won a close second place in a blind tasting of 12 Lebanese rosé wines. These are tangible indications that we are in the right qualitative direction, a route we will continue to follow.
